Surrey-born artist Eric Clapton began his path towards his music career after receiving a Hoyer acoustic guitar on his 13th birthday. Like most kids trying to learn the instrument, Clapton found it hard at first, and was toying with the idea of just giving it up. Even back then, he was a fan of the blues and worked hard to emulate the music that he heard from the tapes of his Grundig Cub recorder. He practiced for hours on end, trying to get the hang of playing a guitar. Years later, Clapton was dismissed from Kingston College of Art after a year because it was clear that he was more interested in music than in art. At that point, Clapton had already improved his guitar-playing skills and got to busking at the West End of London and Kingston in Richmond. Clapton played with David Brock in pubs within the Surrey area, and joined The Roosters at the age of 17. A year later, he left The Roosters to join The Yardbirds. Clapton had a style all his own that propelled him to become a highly regarded guitarist in the UK music industry. Due to artistic differences, Clapton left The Yardbirds and was replaced by Jeff Beck.
In 1965, Clapton became a member of John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers only to leave for Greece with The Glands during the summer. Peter Green took Clapton's place.
In 1966, Clapton formed Cream, which increased Clapton's fame way beyond the United Kingdom's borders. The group disbanded in 1968, but not before releasing a last album aptly entitled “Goodbye”, which featured "Badge", a single Clapton wrote with The Beatles' lead guitarist, George Harrison.
Sometime during the 1970s, Clapton went on a hiatus to treat his heroin addiction. He made a come-back 3 years later. Clapton carried on his prolific career and continues to be one of the top guitarists of all time. This explains why so many people want to get their hands on cheap Eric Clapton tickets.
